Inspiring others grows the business
The leaders of two local companies successfully innovate from within to energise their people and give their businesses a winning edge. They will discuss how they created their successful work culture plus provide insider tips on how to motivate teams at an OnCourse Innovation Leadership event on Tuesday March 18.
Margaret Miles-Bramwell, founder and chairman of Slimming World, and Mark Shaw, founder and chairman of Jupiter Design, will discuss their challenges and experiences with BBC journalist Rob Pittam at Lakeside, Mansfield Road, Nottingham. Their debate will include questions from the invited business audience.
Slimming World is the most advanced slimming organisation in the UK with a network of 2,500 trained Consultants who reach members through 5,500 groups based in their local communities. It is consistently among the Sunday Times top 100 Best Companies To Work For.
Slimming World’s success is founded in a unique understanding of the psychology of slimmers. In a motivating group setting, Slimming World members are empowered to make healthier choices in diet and lifestyle and share their experiences in a supportive environment, enabling them to make life-long behaviour changes.
"We’re passionate about inspiring our teams to put excellent service to our members at the heart of everything we do," says Margaret Miles-Bramwell. "All our training and communication focuses on constantly driving our company culture of inspiration, integrity and mutual trust through to staff and our members."
Margaret founded the company in 1969 and still remains its driving force. With the experience of a lifetime’s weight problem, it is her enthusiasm and unique vision that has made the company so successful.
Jupiter Design is a full service brand, marketing and design agency employing over 80 people at its Ruddington Manor offices. Rated by Design Week as the fastest growing agency in the UK, it is the largest design business in the East Midlands, according to the Design Business Association.
"The Success of Jupiter Design is due to the foundations for a strong and positive working culture that we put in place from the beginning," says Mark Shaw. "I think this formula works in every industry and I’m keen to share it with other business managers."
Mark worked in publishing and as a copywriter before turning his hand to freelancing, a career move that proved highly successful but all-consuming. As life became busier he decided to open an office and employ others. Growth quickly followed, as did various name changes, and the company was re-launched as Jupiter Design in 1997.
