Key Points
- The most exciting part of running a business is the early days when you are setting it up
- PR is vitally important. Neither Judy nor Tiny have ever paid for advertising but have marketed their products through extensive media coverage. Never turn down any opportunity to generate publicity. If you can somehow associate your products with use by celebrities this will generate substantial coverage
- However you have to believe in your product. If you are not passionate about what you do you will not get others to buy in to it
- Most business people do it for their own personal satisfaction. The desire to create something unique that people will value is more of a driver than the wish to make money
- Luck can play a part but you have to be positioned to make best use of opportunities that might come your way
- Never be afraid to ask your customers for the cheque !!
- Never give up faith in yourself or your product. However difficult things may appear and how many sleepless nights you have, something usually turns up; "something will happen"
- Proving yourself to parents who doubted your abilities can be a strong motivating factor. Striving to prove "them" wrong can be a key business driver
